Victoria understands dogs, her books reinforce dog training classes I have taken.
This book is full of helpful advice, from a positive trainer, on how to deal with the most common doggie problems: Part one covers Puppy Problems including crate training, potty training, household destruction, nipping and biting, jumping up, and shyness and socialization. Part two covers training problems such as pulling on leash, running away, and difficulties with grooming/handling your dog. Part three has chapters on leash reactivity, attention-seeking behavior, picky eaters, barking, and digging. The most helpful part of the book is the very beginning, where she encourages a mindful attention to whatever behavior your dog is displaying. As she says, any behavior that is rewarded will continue, so you need to think ahead and make sure you are rewarding good behavior, and ignoring or preventing bad behavior.
Her techniques are solidly based on current scientific approaches which minimize punishment and focus on building a better relationship with your dog through positive reinforcement. Each chapter starts with a case study and includes several possible outcomes, and then discusses ways to address the issue.
Current positive reinforcement trainers won't find any new or surprising techniques in this book, but it is an excellent compendium of the most common dog problems and a very helpful, easy-to-read guide for trainers and owners alike to address their dogs' issues.

This is a fascinating read. Not only does she give you tips on working with your dog, but she gives scenarios and examples of how things could be if other methods (or lack there of) were applied. While I enjoyed this book, I felt that Bonding with your Dog was even better.
